The Municipal Councils mode
of operation is based on "Management by Committee"
system where decisions are taken after deliberation in different
committees and for that purpose, we are required by law (LGA1989
Section 46) to appoint different committees which will be
responsible for decision making and to look into matters of
urgency and issues pertaining to the administration of the
town.
For that purpose, we have 5
standing committees and other non-standing committees and
their terms of reference as well as matters dealt with are
as follows:
(1) The General Purposes Committee
(whole council) is a policy making committee and is the Committee
that examines all matters relating to the conferment of Honorary
Citizens and the renaming of roads/streets/lanes.
(2) To be the policy making
committee, generally and in particular for all capital works
to be planned and executed by the Council either through contracts
or by Municipal direct labour.
(3) To examine all matters relating to:

(i) conferment of Honorary Citizenship
and
(ii) renaming of roads/streets/lanes |
(4) To deal with all matters
not specifically covered by the different committees set up
by Council and to take decision thereon.
